Telegram GmailBot Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy sets out how we, Telegram Messenger Inc. (“Telegram”), use and protect your personal data that you provide to us, or that is otherwise obtained or generated by us, in connection with your use of our @GmailBot Bot (the Bot). For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ refers to Telegram, and ‘you’ refers to you, the user of the Services.

The Bot is a part of the Telegram Bot Ecosystem. For more information on Telegram messaging services please refer to Telegram Privacy Policy.

The Bot's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Gmail and the Gmail logo are registered trademarks of Google LLC.

1.1 Privacy Principles

Telegram has two fundamental principles when it comes to collecting and processing private data:

  • We don't use your data to show you ads.
  • We only store the data that Telegram needs to function as a secure and feature-rich messaging service.

1.2. EEA Representative

If you live in a country in the European Economic Area (EEA), the Services are provided by Telegram, which for the purposes of applicable data protection legislation is the data controller responsible for your personal data when you use our Services. However, as Telegram is located outside the EEA, we have designated one of our EEA-based group companies, Telegram UK Holdings Ltd (71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, England, WC2H 9JQ), as a representative to whom you may direct any issues you have relating to our processing of your personal data.

2. Legal Ground for Processing Your Personal Data

We process your personal data on the ground that such processing is necessary to further our legitimate interests (including: (1) providing effective and innovative Services to our users; and (2) to detect, prevent or otherwise address fraud or security issues in respect of our provision of Services), unless those interests are overridden by your interest or fundamental rights and freedoms that require protections of personal data.

3. What Personal Data We Use

3.1. Basic Telegram Data

The Bot is available only via the Telegram communication service. Please refer to Telegram Privacy Policy regarding basic Telegram account data.

3.2. Gmail Data

The Bot requests your permission to access your Gmail Data via OAuth. After you accept the request, we use the Google API to receive your new emails and notify you about them in Telegram. You can reply to those emails, forward, archive and delete them as well as create and send new emails, right from Telegram. In order to provide these features, we store your Gmail API token, your notification preferences and your Gmail screen name. We also store the cache of your incoming messages for the previous 7 days for you to be able to reply to these messages via Telegram; all such cached data older than one week is cleared automatically.

4. Keeping Your Personal Data Safe

4.1. Storing Data

The data related to the Bot is stored separately from the main Telegram Data, in data centers in Germany. These are third-party provided data centers in which Telegram rents a designated space. We do not share your personal data with such data centers.

4.2. Retention

Unless stated otherwise in this Privacy Policy, the personal data that you provide us will only be stored for as long as it is necessary for us to fulfill our obligations in respect of the provision of the Services.

5. Who Your Personal Data May Be Shared With

5.1. Telegram’s Group Companies

We may share your personal data with: (1) our parent company, Telegram Group Inc, located in the British Virgin Islands; and (2) Telegram FZ-LLC, a group member located in Dubai, to help provide, improve and support our Services. We will implement appropriate safeguards to protect the security and integrity of that personal data. This will take the form of standard contract clauses approved by the European Commission in an agreement between us and our relevant group companies.

6. Deleting data

If you no longer want to use the Bot, send the /resetbot command to the Bot. You will stop receiving notifications and we will revoke our permission to access your Gmail Data. You can also revoke our permissions to your Gmail account manually here: https://myaccount.google.com/permissions. After the permission is revoked, we will remove all your Gmail data from our servers within 30 days.

7. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We will review and may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes to this Privacy Policy will become effective when we post the revised Privacy Policy on this page www.telegram.org/privacy/gmailbot. Please check our website frequently to see any updates or changes to our Privacy Policy, a summary of which we will set out below.
